Medicine Buddha is invoked for physical, mental and emotional healing. He is surrounded by Hawaiian hibiscus flowers for an Aloha feeling. I revisited this woodblock, refining the carving and carving 2 more color blocks. My woodblock carving and printing skills have improved over the past 7 years. I always liked this Medicine Buddha and decided to revise some of my favorite early blocks. Aloha Medicine Buddha is a hand carved and hand pulled woodblock.
Mokuhanga is the traditional Japanese style of woodblock prints. A separate block is hand carved for each color used. The blocks are printed onto Japanese Kozo or mulberry paper by hand rubbing with a barren. The inks used are sumie and watercolor inks. Moku hanga is a labor-intensive old school printmaking practice.
