Moku hanga wood block on mulberry paper
11x14
2021

Ganapati made with 4 woodblocks, one for each color. Ganapati, also known as Ganesha is the remover of obstacles. This adorable Ganesha sits on his modest throne attended by Moushika, the mouse, his vehicle.
Ganesha is the most beloved Hindu deity. He is the known as the remover of obstacles. He is invoked at the beginning of new adventures. He is found everywhere in India from schoolyards to temples.

Mokuhanga is the traditional Japanese style of woodblock prints. A separate block is hand carved for each color used. The blocks are printed onto Japanese Kozo or mulberry paper by hand rubbing with a barren. The inks used are sumi and watercolor inks. Mokuhanga is a labor-intensive, non-toxic, low-tech old school printmaking practice.
