This is a portrait study in preparation for carving a woodblock of a contemporary Ram, the Indian king renowned for his integrity, honesty and compassion. I have been exploring the yogic philosophy that all women are the goddess and all men are in essence Shiva or consciousness. Jamal, also know as Ganapati, has tremendous integrity and I thought he would make a good Ram. He also likes archery. Ram is usually depicted with his bow and arrow.
