Phoenix are mythical birds that rise up from the ashes symbolic for rebirth or fresh starts and renewal. I created an art piece as a fundraiser for Maui Fire victims using the phoenix symbol. This made me want to create an artwork for anyone going through difficulties with the idea of rising up, growth and renewal.
I carved 3 woodblocks, one for each color and hand printed the artwork onto paper using a bamboo baren.
