Nagas are Mythical Hindu Buddhist creatures that heal the land and protect the environment. In Buddhist view they also reveal hidden knowledge. These Nagas are part of my Everyday Goddess series. My daughter and I are the models for this woodblock. We care immensely about the environment and protecting our world. Our planet needs a lot of healing. Buddhism advocates for love and compassion for all sentient beings including people, animals and our planet.
This is artwork consists of 7 separate woodblocks hand printed onto Japanese mulberry paper. The Printmaking process is Mokuhanga. Mokuhanga is the traditional Japanese style of woodblock prints. A separate block is hand carved for each color used. The blocks are printed onto Japanese Kozo or mulberry paper by hand rubbing with a barren. The inks used are sumi and watercolor inks. Mokuhanga is a labor-intensive, non-toxic, low-tech old school printmaking practice.
