I first cut the woodblock in 2015, I only cut the key block which is the outline. In 2021, I revisited some of my early woodblocks and with this one I cut an additional 4 color woodblocks. I have been doing mokuhanga woodblocks since 2014. My carving, registration and printing skills have come a long way but I still really liked the artwork and charm of these early blocks. I re carved the blocks and carved additional color blocks and then printed them in the traditional manner. I use a bamboo baren to hand rub the blocks onto mulberry paper.

Durga is a protector goddess. She is known to come in dark times when truth is obscured. She brings the clear light of truth to remove darkness. She is one of the most beloved goddesses in hunduism.

Mokuhanga is the traditional Japanese style of woodblock prints. A separate block is hand carved for each color used. The blocks are printed onto Japanese Kozo or mulberry paper by hand rubbing with a barren. The inks used are sumi and watercolor inks. Mokuhanga is a labor-intensive, non-toxic, low-tech old school printmaking practice.
