My daughter, Devi, drew this design and made her into a sticker. I loved the drawing so much that I asked her if I could carve her. Here is the result. I hand-printed her onto yellow mingle Japanese paper. I hand painted this original woodblock print.
Durga is a protector goddess. She comes in dark times when it seems that our government and politicians are ruled by demons. The goddess comes to put things back into balance. She is the protector in the Kaliyuga age.
Mokuhanga is the traditional Japanese style of woodblock prints. The blocks are printed onto Japanese Kozo or mulberry paper by hand rubbing with a bamboo baren. The inks used are sumi and watercolor inks. Mokuhanga is a labor-intensive old school printmaking practice.
