New Work 2017
Hand carved mokuhanga woodblocks of mynah birds and ulu, Hawaiian breadfruit trees. I carefully carve each block and then hand rub onto mulberry paper. I love how sassy mynah birds are strutting throughout Hawaii.
Mokuhanga is the traditional Japanese woodblock method. The blocks are hand carved and hand rubbed to print using watercolor inks. Moku Hanga is a labor-intensive old school printmaking practice. Typically a separate block is carved for each color. This piece uses 2 mokuhanga woodblocks.
