New Work 2019
A Little Dharma is part of my Little Buddhas series. This is Padmasambhava who brought Buddhism from India to Tibet. Dharma is a word for Buddhist teachings. Padmasambhava is revered as the second Buddha. He is credited with hiding teachings, called terma, for future times when they would be applicable. This little woodblock was very difficult to carve, such a little face, hands and staff but I'm really pleased with how it turned out
Mokuhanga is the traditional Japanese style of woodblock prints. The block is printed onto Japanese Kozo or mulberry paper by hand rubbing with a barren. The inks used are sumi and watercolor inks. Mokuhanga is a labor-intensive old school printmaking practice.
