A portrait study for my Everyday Goddess series, American Buddhist Art, Everyday Goddess
Native Durga
digital portrait

Grace Noel portrait study for Native Durga woodblock.
Part of my Everyday goddess series.

In this body of work, I have been thinking about the yoga philosophy that all women are the goddess and recognizing Buddha nature in all people. I am exploring ethnic and cultural diversity as a means of expressing archetypal goddesses in contemporary settings.

My background is traditional Tibetan thangka painting. I have merged this with my studies of Mokuhanga, Japanese woodblocks. I work primarily with woodblocks and I'm inspired to revitalize the Tibetan practice of woodblocks of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas in contemporary ways.
